Could someone please give me pointers on how to remove the main brake rod that goes left to right through the transmission on a 1010 dozer. John Deere 1010 dozer for sale in Douglass, Kansas. The 1020 and the 2020 (the four-cylinder version of the 1020) were low-profile tractors designed to mimmick the features of the extremely successful Ford and Oliver utility tractors. It is a completely different tractor, just like jd110 said. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get them off? It almost looks like there are some sort of pins on each side that you might have to tap out but these are so rusty it is hard to tell. The 1020 was a three-cylinder utility tractor introduced in 1965. I cannot figure out how to get the ends off from the rod on each side to tap out the main rod. I have tried to spray them quit a few times and worked the pedal back and forth with not much luck. As far as the brake goes, I have disconnected the two little rods that go back to the rear clutch/brake mechanisms so the issue just appears to be that the bushings where the rod goes through the transmission are seized/rusty. The clutch pedal is a little better now that I cleaned out the bell housing but still works hard. The other issue it has is that the clutch and brake pedal move very hard. I put some diesel fuel down the cylinders and let it sit for a week and was able to turn the engine over after working it back and forth with a small bar on the back of the crankshaft. I pulled the engine and was able to fill a 5 gallon bucket with seeds, grass, mouse remains etc. Maybe someone swapped out the crappy 1010 four cylinder for a 2-53. Originally I was just going to use it for parts on my 64 1010 but it was in such good shape I have decided to try and salvage it. They were used in the 430 and 440 crawlers, but the 1010 had their own 4 cylinder engine that was not one of John Deere's best efforts, especially if it was an early one. I bought it and got a great deal on it because the guy said the engine and trans were seized.
