When you see a purple line descend down the note strings, press a number on the row below the 7-8-9 line to whomp the kick drum. Even though there are three note lines, the kick drum also comes into play. On a stronger handset, such as BREW-enabled phone, the tracks sound just about as good as your iTunes library through a set of decent portable speakers. While not quite MP3-quality on the lower-end handsets that use Java, the tracks are still instantly recognizable. Both the high- and low-end versions of the game sound fantastic.
This is where both developer MachineWorks and publisher Hands-On deserve real credit. And everybody will love jamming to Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band's "Hollywood Nights." What matters more than an impressive song collection, though, is how the tunes actually sound. Coldplay ("Shiver") is all set for the kids. Nineties rockets will appreciate No Doubt ("Spiderwebs") and Smashing Pumpkins ("Today"). Classic rock lovers will enjoy a little Creedence Clearwater Revival ("Up Around the Bend") and Lynyrd Skynyrd ("Sweet Home Alabama"). The track list is varied with the intent of pleasing different musical tastes.

World Tour has 15 songs ready to go from the giddy-up, with plans for an additional song available for download each month for a nominal fee. After mastering No Doubt's "Spiderwebs" on the guitar, attack it on the drums for a whole new take on the song. Expanding the instrument library just by a single instrument effectively doubles the amount of gameplay in World Tour mobile since every song now has a second angle. World Tour on cellphones only adds drums, which seems like an organic inclusion since tapping on number keys really isn't that divorced from hitting drums. The console version of Guitar Hero World Tour is notable for its inclusion of drums and vocals, bringing it in line with the successful upstart Rock Band franchise.
